The terminal area is highly complex, dynamic, and congested environment presenting many challenges in terms of safety maintenance. Current operations require the isolation of UAVs from other manned and unmanned traffic as operator situational awareness is not sufficient to maintain safety in this environment. The ACUGOTA program seeks to address safety issues by introducing onboard intelligence to maintain situational awareness, coordinate with other airfield entities, navigate the airfield environment, all while resolving potential traffic and contingent situations.
