Hungary is not a fair and free country | Zsuzsanna Szelenyi

On Sunday, Viktor Orban won a landslide victory as he sought re-election for a fourth mandate at the head of Hungary.

Speaking to Matt Chorley, former Hungarian MP and founding member of Orbans party Fidesz Zsuzsanna Szelenyi said: “This is a really really disappointing result.”

She added: “They really did a very strong mobilisation, especially in smaller villages and small towns where the Fidesz party is relatively strong anyway, and where people do get their information from public media, which is is deeply biased towards the ruling party.”

Explaining how Orbans party has total control over the countrys media, she said: “The public media, we dont even call it public media any longer, we call it state media, because it only presents the opinion of the governing party.

“For example, the opposition parties didnt have more than five minutes over six weeks campaign to present themselves in the television. This is absolutely ridiculous.”

Zsuzsanna Szelenyi said that it should “be taken seriously that this country is not a fair and free country”.
