Israel is provoking famine in Gaza, says EU foreign policy chief

Josep Borrell has accused Israel of creating a famine and using starvation as a weapon of war. In Gaza we are no longer on the brink of famine, we are in a state of famine, affecting thousands of people, the EUs top diplomat told a Brussels conference on humanitarian aid for the Palestinian territory.

A number of countries have airdropped food into northern Gaza, where the threat of starvation is most severe. However, aid organisations say these deliveries cannot be a substitute for the mass shipments of assistance that Gaza’s 2.3 million population needs, something that would be possible if Israel opened more border crossings.
