“I wanted to be a fighter pilot when I graduated and got my wings.”
During his distinguished career in the Royal Canadian Air Force, Major (Ret’d) Bob Wade served through the height of the Cold War, from pilot instructor to Snowbird, CF-104 Starfighter, and CF-18 Hornet pilot. He inspired Canadians in the skies as a demonstration pilot for three seasons, and he answered the call of duty, flying the ground attack role in West Germany and conducting live intercepts on Soviet bombers in the high Arctic.
“I want Canadians to appreciate that peace is not the absence of war, but it’s the maintenance of those hard-won freedoms.”
This Remembrance Day, we honour all those who served, including those still among us who continue to inspire. Now is the time to listen to their stories.
