The events in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine are closely followed by armies around the world and precious lessons learned are gathered from the war.
Russia, which has a very large ammunition pool, and Ukraine, supported by many western countries, started the war intensively, using the most advanced and expensive ammunition they had. Despite additional support from third parties, the modern ammunition available to both sides quickly fell to critical levels and the war degenerated into a battle of trenches and artillery reminiscent of the First World War.
While hi-tech weapon systems and their effects were discussed in the world media and military think tanks at the beginning of the war, today the number of daily artillery fires and artillery munition productions are discussed.
In order for the war to be continued and concluded successfully, the priority of both sides has now become the supply of long-range ammunition that has precision strike capability, can be produced quickly and in large quantities, but is less costly.
Turkiye is currently continuing the serial production of the IHA 230 missile, which was developed from the TRLG 230 surface-to-surface missile and can be used from air to ground on Akinci UCAVs. Air-to-ground launch tests of the IHA 122 missile, developed from surface to surface TRLG 122 missile, were carried out on December 7, 2023.
Will Turkiye be able to offer an alternative solution to the modern ammunition need identified due to the war in Ukraine with its IHA 230 and IHA 122 missiles developed by Roketsan?

According to Roketsan’s official website, TRLG 230 Missile provides accurate and effective fire power on high priority targets within the ranges 20 – 70 km. TRLG 230 Missile can be launched from Roketsan Multi-Caliber Launcher Artillery Weapon System and other platforms with compatible interfaces.
In the TRLG 230 missile brochure, the phrase Combat Proven is included. It is known that the missile was used during the 44-day Karabakh War and gained great admiration from the Azerbaijani Army with its results. Various sources claim that the TRLG 230 missile is being used by Ukraine against Russia.
The TRLG missile can be launched against a UAV-marked target in the air over enemy territory using a launch vehicle on the ground behind the front lines. The missile finds the marked target thanks to its laser seeker head and can hit it with a CEP below 2 meters.
While in the past, UCAVs could only attack their targets with the ammunition they could carry, thanks to this new capability, they can use both the ammunition they carry and many missiles launched by the TRLG battery.
Roketsan wanted to take the precision strike capability of the TRLG missile and its success in the field one step further, and integrated the missile on Akıncı UCAV. This new missile is called IHA 230.
