“At least some of the Russian soldiers repented or asked for forgiveness because they realised just how much nonsense theyve been fed. At the same point they didnt stop doing what they were doing, but there was some element of recognition.”
Russia will have to come to terms with war crimes committed by its military as liberated Ukrainians begin to talk of war crimes and which soldiers in Putins ranks were more or less humane, says Dr Jade McGlynn a research fellow from the Department of War Studies at Kings College London.
