Speaking ahead of International Womens Day, former Australian prime minister Julia Gillard called for complete global solidarity in the isolation of Russia.
She said she had met Russian president Vladimir Putin in the past at a G20 event, and that “there is a degree of shock no matter what your analysis was of likely Russian actions, actually seeing it play out in real time with the hideous footage.”
She added: “My analysis I think would be like many others. I mean, clearly, a sort of hyper masculine approach to politics and to the world and to leadership, which has degenerated into what weve seen in recent weeks.”
She also talked about the role of women in Ukraine during the war, emphasising that “when we continue to talk about equality, then I think were doing ever more to perfect the democratic project, and thats exactly the kind of thing that president Putin is opposed to.”
