USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) Portside Rudder and Rudder Stock Installation

Take a look at this time-lapse video as HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division installs the portside rudder and rudder stock on USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) as the ship’s extensive refueling and complex overhaul (RCOH) continues. The rudder, weighing in at 49 tons, is lowered into the dry dock and positioned into place. Next, the approximately 27 foot long rudder stock weighing 20 tons, is lowered into and through several layers of the aircraft carrier to hold the rudder in place.
