The Duke of Gloucester Cup is an annual competition to test the warfighting skills of infantry soldiers from the Royal Australian Regiment. This year, the Duke of Gloucester Cup was held at the Townsville Field Training Area and Tully Training Area. Competitors are tested individually and as part of a team across a range of skills under arduous conditions, including marksmanship, reconnaissance, planning and executing section attacks and close quarters fighting.
Along with the Duke of Gloucester Cup, five other trophies are awarded: Sir Arthur MacDonald Trophy for best foundation warfighting skills; Gurkha Trophy for best live-fire shooting; Royal Ulster Rifles Trophy for best falling plate shooting; OSCMAR Trophy for best battle endurance; and the DSM Roche CSC Memorial Cup for best individual soldier. The Duke of Gloucester Cup was created by Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, in 1946, while serving as the Governor-General of Australia. DoG Cup is planned and executed by the School of Infantry, with support from 3rd Brigade and Combat Training Centre.
