T129 ATTACK HELICOPTER
T129 ATAK ADVANCED ATTACK AND TACTICAL RECONNAISSANCE HELICOPTER

ATAK Contract has been signed on 7 September 2007 as a result of an effort to meet the “attack & tactical reconnaissance helicopter” requirements of Turkish Armed Forces. The original contract calls out for 50 helicopters. An amendment was made on 8 November 2010 to enable deliveries of 9 additional helicopters, starting fifteen months earlier than planned.

T129 is the result of the integration of nationally developed avionics and weapon systems on to the combat proven AgustaWestland A129 airframe, with upgraded engines, transmission and rotor blades. Optimized for “hot & high” environments, T129 is the most efficient Attack Helicopter in its class.

T129 is designed to meet the demanding requirements of the Turkish Armed Forces. It is optimized to perform at “hot & high” environments with considerable fire-power. T129 has two versions. T129A is the “combat support” version capable of carrying 500 ea 20mm gun rounds and up to 76 guided or unguided 2.75″ rockets. T129B is the “multi-role” version equipped with the leading edge electronic warfare systems and capable to carry a payload of 8 anti-tank missiles, 12 guided 2.75″ rockets, 2 air-to-air missiles and 500 rounds, simultaneously.

The maiden flight of first TAI built T129A prototype took place on 17 August 2011. Type qualification is being carried out with 6 flying prototypes and will encompass around 2000 flight hours. Turkish Armed Forces Initial Operational Capability is expected in the Q1 of 2013. T129B deliveries are scheduled to start in Q2 2013.
