Farmers are probably the same in every country, from South Africa to Suomi: Big-hearted oafs, down-to-earth in all senses. Never up-to-speed with any machinations of the sleek city folk… yet sly as foxes. Humble and god-fearing, but won’t take shit from anyone… Generally pleasant, soulful people, until someone comes to take their land away. Then they’ll choke you with bare hands for taking even a speck of their dirt.
Here’s a typical example: *Olexandr Povoroznyuk* — a farmer-entrepreneur from the village of Petrove, southern Ukraine. When the Russians came, all the local, district, and regional administration ran away. So, Olexandr took the defense of the land into his own hands — organized a farmers’ battalion.
And when these _sons of the soil_ take to the guns, enemy beware!
