I miss home – Building a new life in London | Sonya Kornuykh

'I miss home' - Building a new life in London | Sonya KornuykhShortly after the war started nearly eight weeks ago, Times Radio Breakfast talked to Marina Pesenti, the former director of the Ukrainian Institute London, whose family was in the town of Irpin. Among them was Sonya Kornuykh, Marina’s 16-year-old niece.

After fleeing Irpin for London, Sonya Kornuykh said: “My life in London is great. Everythings okay, but Im adjusting.”

She continued: “Im not able to plan something because I dont know what its going to be like in one month or in one week. So Im just living my life and hoping that very soon I will return home but I have no plans. I will be attending a school here.

“Im excited and Im nervous. I think its gonna be like an adventure or something. But Im afraid that children in that school will be bullying me.”

She said: “I am always thinking about my bedroom. I really miss this. And I remember, walking in Irpin with my friends and just living with my family. I miss everything. My school…”
