Kremlin refuses to trust Belarus with nuclear weapons for fear they might nuke Russia

“The Kremlin might worry that if one of those were loaded on a Belarusian aeroplane, instead of flying west, the aeroplane might fly east and attack Russia.”

Despite placing tactical nuclear weapons within Belarus, Russia doesn’t trust their pilots to carry the weapon for fear they might ‘go in the other direction,’ says William Courtney, former advisor to Bill Clinton on Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia.
