Patria’s mortar history timeline

Patria’s foundations for mortar development and manufacturing date back to the early 1930s.

In 1933, the Ministry of Defence’s Ordnance Division commissioned the first 100 pieces of 81 mm mortars, including auxiliary equipment, from Tampella. This order marked the beginning of Tampella’s weapons production, after which the factory also began producing the 120 mm mortar model.

In the early 1950s, the Finnish Defence Forces asked Tampella to develop a general-purpose gun suitable for a range of applications.

Today, Patria develops, markets and manufactures turreted mortar systems. With proven weapon technology based on experience in 120 mm mortars, Patria NEMO and Patria TREMOS are responding to the needs of modern warfare.
