Putin wants to restore a kind of tsarist Russia | Thornike Gordadze

'Putin wants to restore a kind of tsarist Russia' | Thornike GordadzeSpeaking to Carole Walker on T&G, former Georgian minister Thornike Gordadze said that Ukrainians need more Western support as they are “fighting for all of us”.

Gordadze, former Georgian minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration, said that Putin had a plan and that it was difficult for democratic countries to understand what he wants.

He said: “Vladimir Putin had a very long term plan, he decided to recreate a kind of empire.

“And this is not even the Soviet Union because in his last speech, he said that Soviet Union gave too much autonomy to the countries like Ukraine, Georgia, etc.

“He wants to restore a kind of tsarist Russia, when all these territories were kind of governorates where the heads of the regions were appointed by the tsar.”

He added: “If he wants to restore Russia as a as a global player, as a dominant player in Europe, because now we are talking about the security on the European continent, he had to take the control over Ukraine

“And now what the Ukrainian are doing? They are fighting for all, for all of us, I mean, for the whole Europe and the security and the future of Europe.”
