Shaman

72nd Brigade “The Black Cossacks”

Just as in one drop or water you can see the entire ocean, so in the story of one Ukrainian man you can see the struggle of the entire nation.

*Translator’s notes:*

0:36 *Dulya* — a fist with a thumb stuck between the index and middle fingers — a common Slavic sign of contempt and mockery, an equivalent of the western ‘middle finger’ salute. “Shaman” uses _dulya_ half in jest, as a kind of “mudra”, to exorcise evil spirits from alcohol he’s about to ingest.

1:25 *Moschun* — a town north of Kyiv, next to Hostomel and Bucha that saw some of the heaviest close-range firefights in the earliest days of war.
