Should Boris Johnson be investigated over Lebedevs peerage? | John Healey

Should Boris Johnson be investigated over Lebedev's peerage? | John HealeyThe Sunday Times reveals today that Boris Johnson pushed ahead with the nomination of his friend Evgeny Lebedev, the Moscow-born son of an ex-KGB agent and media mogul, even after intelligence officials raised concerns.

Speaking to Tom Newton Dunn and Katy Balls on T&G, shadow defence secretary John Healey said: “Boris Johnsons friendships have perhaps been part of a reluctance weve seen in recent years for this government to take the action needed to clean up the dirty money that keeps Putin in power, to bring in the reforms so that we can see the shell companies that hide money-laundering operations, so that we can see the real ownership of much of the property thats been snapped up by oligarchs in London and elsewhere in Britain.”

He also commented on Boris Johnsons six point plan to defeat Putin following the invasion of Ukraine.

He said: “His six point plan is exactly what the alliance of not just Western states, but increasingly international opinion is actually doing.

And in many ways, some of our allies could reasonably turn around and say Well its all very well for you, Boris Johnson, youve got to now match some of your tough rhetoric with your own action, particularly on humanitarian assistance, on diplomacy and on sanctions.”
