His son, Hamza Wael al-Dahdouh, also a journalist for Al Jazeera, died alongside Mustafa Thuria, a freelance video journalist for AFP. They were killed while travelling in a car between Rafah and western Khan Younis, according to AFP. Wael al-Dahdouh was recently wounded in a strike, and lost his wife and two of his children in attacks in the initial weeks of the war in Gaza. According to the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists, at least 77 journalists and media workers have been killed since the conflict started.
